Dearborn Heights — The Dearborn Heights City Council approved a budget late Friday night, avoiding a potential Monday government shutdown that would have virtually halted all city services.
After council members spent more than two hours digging into the salaries of various workers and the budgets of city departments, the council approved a budget for the next fiscal year in a 5-2 vote that among other things cut recommended new positions, shaved off total overtime amounts for police and lowered the levels of raises suggest by Mayor Bill Bazzi.
