Earlier this month, Councilman Hassan Saab continued his attacks on Mayor Bazzi by introducing amendments to the budget to defund three positions in the Mayor’s department.
The September 5th meeting started with a heated conversation between Councilman Saab and former Councilman Ray Muscat about the cuts in the budget. Since taking office in January, Mr. Saab has moved to eliminate positions in the police department, attacked the Mayor, and has tried to use his position on the council to run the Mayor’s department. During the meeting, Mr. Saab and several council members discussed conversations they had had with employees, which resulted in their discussion to eliminate positions.
Some of the part-time positions they were trying to eliminate belonged to women who were out on maternity. These moves could expose the city to legal action, something Mr. Saab is used to.
One has to wonder if Mr. Saab is lining up a bid for Mayor next year.
